Men: Are You at Risk For Prostate Cancer?

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American men. Doctors do not know what causes prostate cancer, but there are certain things that put men at greater risk.

AGE - Men can get prostate cancer at any age, but the risk is greatest for men age 50 and older. Prostate cancer is most common in men age 65 and older.

FAMILY HISTORY - Men with a father or brother who has had prostate cancer are at greater risk for getting the disease.

RACE - While men of every race are at risk of getting prostate cancer, African American men are at the greatest risk.

DIET & EXERCISE - Doctors believe that a diet high in fat can increase the risk of prostate cancer. Getting little to no exercise can also increase your risk.

If you think you are at risk for prostate cancer, talk to your doctor. He or she can give you more information and may talk to you about screening for the disease.
