Immunization Requirements
The following immunizations are required by the New York State Department of Health for all children entering pre-kindergarten programs, including day care, nurseries, Head Start, and pre-k programs:
- Diphtheria Toxoid-Containing Vaccine
- Diphtheria, Pertussis, and Tetanus Vaccine (DTP or DTap)
- Polio (IPV)
- Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR)
- Hepatitis B (HepB)
- Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV)
- Varicella (Chickenpox)
The following immunizations are required all children entering kindergarten to grade 12:
- Diphtheria Toxoid-Containing Vaccine
- Diphtheria, Pertussis, and Tetanus Vaccine (DTP or DTap) - for children born on or after 1/1/94 and enrolling in grades 6-9
- Polio (IPV)
- Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR)
- Hepatitis B (HepB)
- Varicella (Chickenpox) - for children born on or after 1/1/94 and enrolling in grades 6- 11
There are more immunizations that young children should get to keep them healthy that are not required for school entry, including Rotavirus, Influenza, and Hepatitis A. Talk to your child’s doctor to make sure your child is fully immunized before school begins in the fall.
