Cancer screening: Early treatment can make the difference

Screening for cancer and finding it early can increase your chances of beating the disease.

The American Cancer Society recommends that all adults age 50 and older be screened every year for colon/rectal cancer. Men over the age of 50 should also be screened by their doctor regularly for prostate cancer and women over the age of 40 should have an annual mammogram, which screens for breast cancer.

In addition, women should get annual cervical cancer screenings beginning at age 18.
Everyone should talk to their doctor about their own risk factors. These include your age, sex, amount of time you spend in the sun, diet, and where you live and work.
